South Korea weighs Claude Mythos threat, finance-software phaseout

( April 16, 2026, 07:55 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s National AI Strategy Committee said its new Security Special Committee held its first regular meeting on Thursday, launching discussions on issues ranging from a review of Anthropic’s Claude Mythos to plans to phase out installation-based security software in the financial sector. The committee said advances in generative and agentic artificial intelligence are rapidly reshaping cybersecurity, noting that Claude Mythos 4.7 has surfaced as a new security threat after detecting vulnerabilities humans had failed to find over 27 years. In reviewing Mythos, the science ministry reported on the model’s capabilities, threat level and South Korea’s response capacity. Members agreed that, beyond short-term steps such as inspections of critical infrastructure and stronger supply-chain security, South Korea needs AI-based real-time defenses, stronger global cooperation and to elevate its independent foundation-model project into a broader security-capacity effort.Statement is attached (in Korean). ...
