Wikimedia services face blocking in Indonesia over registration lapses

( April 16, 2026, 02:40 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Wikimedia Foundation has been given an “ultimatum” by Indonesia's ministry of communication and digital affairs over its failure to complete the registration process as an electronic system provider. In a statement Wednesday, Alexander Sabar, directorate general of digital-space supervision at the digital ministry, said if Wikimedia fails to register within seven working days, the ministry will block its services, including its online encyclopedia Wikipedia Indonesia and Wikimedia Commons. Registration is mandatory for all digital platforms operating within the country, including social media, e-commerce, fintech and search engines. Wikimedia was askied earlier to make proper registration, but it hasn't yet done so, arguing it has no representative office in Indonesia.Full statement follows (in Indonesian)....
