Meta sees EU send new charges over fee demands for AI chatbots

( April 15, 2026, 13:03 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Commission has sent a new Statement of Objections to Meta Platforms, in an investigation to see whether an interim injunction is needed to help AI chatbots find users over WhatsApp. Meta made changes on March 4 to address some of the EU concerns, but the regulator said on Wednesday that a new charge for chatbots could have the "same effect of excluding third-party AI assistants from WhatsApp, and thus appears at first sight to be in breach of EU competition rules."
