South Korea ranks third in notable AI models, tops patents in Stanford index

( April 14, 2026, 03:11 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea said it posted standout results in Stanford University’s AI Index 2026, ranking third globally in the number of notable AI models released in 2025, behind only the US and China, up from fourth place a year earlier. The Ministry of Science and ICT also said it remained first for a second consecutive year in AI patents per 100,000 people, while ranking fourth in industrial robot adoption and recording the world’s biggest rise in AI adoption rates in 2025. The ministry added that South Korea placed second among G20 countries in AI-related legislation passed from 2016 to 2025, with the report citing the country’s AI Basic Act as a leading example of a national framework for promoting AI and building trust. The ministry said the report also pointed to weak private AI investment and net talent outflows as areas needing improvement.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
