Tech companies request more time to implement EU's AI rulebook

( April 13, 2026, 05:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Tech companies have asked EU policymakers reviewing a simplification package for AI rules to give them more time for implementation. In a joint statement published on Monday, 15 industry associations active in Europe encourage lawmakers to extend the grace period for generative AI labeling from six months to 12 months and to include systems that enter the market after the current deadline of Aug. 2, stating that otherwise, the EU risks “creating legal uncertainty and delays.” The organizations also recommend that AI systems not classified as high-risk should be exempt from registration.Statement attached....
