South Korea to map public-sector AI training data in first nationwide survey

( April 10, 2026, 03:52 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s science ministry is launching its first government-wide survey of AI training data held by public bodies, in a move grounded in the country’s AI Basic Act and aimed at mapping fragmented data assets and unlocking their use for artificial intelligence development. The Ministry of Science and ICT said Friday the survey will cover all ministries and public institutions, examining not only existing AI training datasets but also data that could be refined for such use. Based on the results, along with expert input and private-sector demand surveys, the government plans to identify about 100 datasets for provision through an integrated national platform. Selected data will undergo quality enhancement and de-identification, with more sensitive datasets to be made available through secure data safe zones.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
