Coupang data breach moves into group dispute mediation in South Korea

( April 7, 2026, 06:25 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Coupang is set to face group dispute mediation in South Korea over its massive personal data breach, after the Consumer Dispute Settlement Commission of the Korea Consumer Agency decided to open the procedure. The agency said Tuesday that consumers had applied for the process in December, with at least 50 applicants seeking damages. The commission initially held off while multiple authorities investigated the details of the breach, which was eventually found to involve about 33.7 million accounts. It resumed its review after additional delivery-address data from about 165,000 accounts was reported as breached and after a joint public-private probe confirmed that user information had been exposed through Coupang’s account-information update page. If Coupang accepts the eventual mediation decision, the commission may pursue a compensation plan that could also cover affected consumers who did not join the case.Statement is attached (in Korean). ...
