South Korea privacy watchdog to inspect outsourced customer service data practices

( April 6, 2026, 06:58 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s privacy watchdog said it will conduct a preemptive inspection of personal data protection practices in five sectors that outsource customer service operations, following a recent case in which a call center worker for a delivery app allegedly misused customer information for retaliatory crime. The Personal Information Protection Commission on Monday said the inspection will cover delivery, home shopping, online shopping, rental and telecommunications businesses, focusing on whether customer service staff are given only the minimum necessary access to personal data and whether access logs are properly retained and reviewed. It also plans to examine whether accounts are shared, whether access rights are changed or revoked when duties change, and how companies supervise and train their contractors. The regulator said the review is intended to identify weaknesses at large outsourced call centers and address them through measures such as corrective recommendations.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
