Indonesian digital ministry reprimands Steam for unverified game ratings

( April 6, 2026, 04:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Indonesian ministry of communication and digital affairs has reprimanded the Steam platform, one of the world’s largest digital-distribution platforms developed by Valve Corporation, for providing "inaccurate classification information" on its platform. In a statement on Sunday, Sonny Hendra Sudaryana, director of digital ecosystem development at the digital ministry, said that monitoring results indicate that the Indonesian Game Rating System ratings displayed on the platform are still derived from an internal self-declaration mechanism and have not undergone “an official verification process” in accordance with Indonesian regulations. He said the ministry will immediately request official clarification from Steam and conduct further discussions to ensure compliance with national regulations. The IGR rating is a game-classification process to determine the appropriate age rating for each game released in Indonesia.Full statement follows (in Indonesian)....
