China flags Sephora, Pop Mart, Arcfox apps over illegal personal-data collection

( April 1, 2026, 09:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Apps run by beauty retailer Sephora, toy maker Pop Mart and electric vehicle brand Arcfox, along with a mini program operated by FAW-Volkswagen, were among 71 applications flagged for illegal collection and use of personal information, according to the National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center, a technical support unit for China’s internet regulator. The apps were found to lack clear disclosures on data processing rules, failed to notify users when sharing data with third parties and did not provide effective options to correct or delete personal information or close accounts. Other violations included processing sensitive personal data without obtaining separate user consent, failing to adopt adequate security measures such as encryption or de-identification and relying on facial recognition as the sole method of user verification.Statement follows (in Chinese). ...
