Amazon fails to fully avoid US wiretapping case over Alexa recordings

( March 31, 2026, 19:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Amazon must face a trimmed US case accusing it of engaging in illegal wiretapping through Alexa units, a federal judge ruled. District Judge Robert S. Lasnik granted judgment against claims based on intentional interactions with Alexa by those in a household where the device was registered by someone else, saying they do not violate the federal wiretap law because Amazon is a party to those communications. However, Lasnik refused to enter a judgment related to false wake recordings because whether such interceptions are intentional and whether the nonregistrants should have known prior to suing that having an Alexa device in their homes meant their conversations were subject to interception will have to be determined on a case-by-case basis by the fact finder.See attached file....
