Oil refiners say Calif. consumers can't show they conspired on gas prices

( March 26, 2026, 16:37 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Chevron, Valero Energy, PBF Energy and other oil refiners told a US federal judge that plaintiffs bringing antitrust claims can't show a conspiracy among them to falsely inflate their estimated low carbon fuel standard costs in reports to California’s Energy Commission and then pass on those costs to consumers by affecting wholesale gasoline prices. The companies argued that LCFS costs to increased starting in January 2025 because the California Air Resources Board amended the annual LCFS standard, making annual compliance more difficult and costly.
