Indonesia lifts restriction on Wikimedia Commons after verification

( March 27, 2026, 06:14 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Indonesia’s Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs said on Friday it had restored access to Wikimedia Commons, a subdomain of Wikimedia, after a temporary restriction. The ministry said the automated block was triggered after its system detected keywords associated with prohibited content categories such as gambling. Director General of Digital Space Supervision Alexander Sabar said the content-filtering system is preventive in nature and, under certain conditions, can produce “false positives” for sites that are neutral and serve an educational function.
