DIRECTV can't show 'likelihood of success' to block deal in US, Nexstar, Tegna say

( March 24, 2026, 14:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: DIRECTV's motion to prevent TV news provider Nexstar Media Group from integrating acquisition target Tegna into its operations even though the deal has already closed should be denied, Nexstar and Tegna told a US federal district court. "Plaintiff’s speculative claims that it will be forced to raise rates on its own customers, or that those customers will receive lower quality news, are both unsupported and irrelevant," the defendants wrote. "Again, among other reasons, the FCC Order commits Nexstar to expand local journalism and programming, just as it has done after prior deals. Beyond the lack of immediate, irreparable harm—which is enough for the Court to deny a TRO—the Court should also decline to issue a TRO because DIRECTV has not established a likelihood of success on the merits."See attached document....
