UK details age assurance duties for platforms under online safety, privacy regimes

( March 25, 2026, 12:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Online platforms face different age assurance requirements in the UK depending on their service type, the UK privacy and media regulators said in a joint statement, detailing how online safety and data protection duties apply across the industry. The Information Commissioner's Office and Ofcom specified which services are captured by which rules. Companies must comply with the OSA alongside UK GDPR requirements, with some services outside the OSA still required to ensure children’s data is processed lawfully. Statement follows.
