US says online platform using AI improperly did customs business

( March 20, 2026, 16:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US Customs and Border Protection said in a ruling that a confidential unlicensed online platform using AI improperly conducted customs business by employing an optical character recognition tool to identify data entries, directly deriving specific tariff codes for products and submitting importer identity forms. CBP said the online platform did not violate any rules by acting as an intermediary between brokers and importers so long as it does not use the power of attorney to act on someone's behalf.Ruling attached....
