Brazil issues age-verification rules under child online protection law

( March 20, 2026, 15:20 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Brazil’s data protection authority issued on Friday preliminary guidelines on age-verification mechanisms under the new law designed to protect children and adolescents in digital environments. The National Data Protection Agency (ANPD), as part of the Digital Statute for Children and Adolescents (ECA Digital), also outlined a two-phase implementation timeline for 2026. Oversight of app stores and operating systems will begin immediately, while other digital service providers are expected to come under supervision from August onward, according to an official statement.Press release follows (in Portuguese)....
