Tech firms say temporary EU rules to detect child abuse content must be extended

( March 20, 2026, 10:18 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Meta Platforms, and TikTok have told EU lawmakers that temporary rules that allow them to voluntarily detect child sexual abuse material, or CSAM, must be extended beyond their scheduled expiry on April 3. Allowing the legal basis of the so-called ePrivacy derogation to expire, in place since 2021, would be irresponsible and reduce protections for minors, they said in a joint statement. The statement comes after EU member states and lawmakers failed to agree on extending the rules. The statement is attached and can be viewed here as well....
