China regulator summons Sanya company over algorithm security lapses

( March 20, 2026, 03:53 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: An unidentified company in Sanya, on China’s Hainan Island, has been summoned by the city-level internet regulator for failing to meet core responsibilities tied to algorithmic security, creating potential cybersecurity risks, according to the provincial-level internet regulator. The company was also requested to undertake immediate rectification, fully comply with cybersecurity evaluation requirements and complete its algorithm registration within a specified deadline. The regulator said the company did not conduct required security assessments or complete mandatory filing procedures before offering algorithmic recommendation services with public opinion or social mobilization capabilities and warned such lapses could result in the generation of harmful information, posing risks to online information order and users’ lawful rights.Statement follows (in Chinese). ...
