Google says it's working with UK competition watchdog on search changes

( March 18, 2026, 17:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Google has said it is working with the UK’s competition authority on digital market rules, and has proposed adding a “less intrusive” permanent switch in its device settings enabling users to easily change their default search engine. In a statement on the company's response to the Competition and Markets Authority's consultation on potential requirements for search, the company said it was also developing updates to its search controls allowing sites to opt-out of AI features. It said it supported the CMA’s goals of ensuring fairness and promoting publisher choice and control.Statement follows....
