South Korea expands data portability right in healthcare

( March 18, 2026, 08:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s privacy regulator has expanded the scope of healthcare data portability to 387 institutions, adding 337 general hospitals to the initial 50, and allowing individuals to transfer and manage medical data held by healthcare providers. The Personal Information Protection Commission said Wednesday that the revision to the Notice on the Transfer of Personal Information in Healthcare took effect on March 18, broadening data portability rights for patients. The changes are expected to create more personalized healthcare services by enabling the use of medical data in health consulting, according to the PIPC. The agency said that it plans to further revise the notice to expand data portability rights in the energy sector.The statement is attached (in Korean)....
