China warns users of risks from 'OpenClaw' AI agent, urges tighter controls

( March 18, 2026, 03:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China's Ministry of State Security is warning users of the open-source AI agent OpenClaw that they face cybersecurity and data risks, according to a user safety manual published on Tuesday. The guidance said the tool’s high system privileges and autonomous execution capabilities could expose devices to takeover, data theft and manipulation if compromised. It highlighted vulnerabilities including malicious plugins, excessive permissions and weak maintenance. Users were urged to adopt “least privilege” controls, encrypt sensitive data, monitor activity logs and deploy the tool in isolated environments. The manual also cautioned that compromised agents could spread misinformation or be used for fraud.Statement follows (in Chinese)....
