South Korean school uniform suppliers fined for bid rigging

( March 18, 2026, 03:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korean school uniform suppliers have been fined a combined 321 million won ($216,000) by the country’s competition regulator for colluding in school uniform procurement bids for middle and high schools. The Korea Fair Trade Commission said Wednesday that it fined 27 school uniform suppliers in the Gwangju region for rigging bids from 2021 to 2023. The companies agreed in advance to predetermine winning bidders for 260 tenders, with 226 tenders ultimately rewarded as prearranged. On average, each supplier secured about 5.9 contracts through the collusion. The KFTC said the conduct resulted in artificially inflated uniform prices for students. It added that it has uncovered 47 school uniform cartels across major regions nationwide since 2010. The statement is attached (in Korean)....
