Lufthansa UK patent appeal against Astronics and Panasonic delayed until summer

By Douglas Clarke-Williams ( March 17, 2026, 15:04 GMT | Insight) -- Lufthansa’s appeal of a UK High court ruling which determined damages for Panasonic’s and Astronic’s infringement of Lufthansa’s patent for supplying electricity for airplane passengers to charge their devices has been delayed until July, the judges overseeing the case announced on Tuesday. MLex understands that this was due to personal circumstances of the lead barrister representing Astronics, Panasonic and Safran. Lufthansa is appealing a UK High Court ruling which awarded the company approximately $18 million from defendants Astronics, Panasonic and Safran after finding that the three companies infringed Lufthansa’s patent for supply of electrical power to airplane passengers’ seats. Lufthansa’s claim that it should have been awarded all of the defendants’ profits, rather than just a proportion, will now have to wait until July to be heard....
