EU media mergers may face first proactive opinions from oversight board this year

Amma Asante, the chair of the European Media Board, told MLex the European media market is already highly concentrated. The board is tracking deals involving Belgian newspaper Le Soir, Italian newspaper La Repubblica and Paramount–Warner Bros.Media companies are likely to see the first formal signs of the EU’s new industry plurality test for mergers this year, with the European Media Board expected to start proactively issuing opinions on deals while national authorities continue adapting to the regime....
