Japan's Matsuo Industries receives corrective recommendation on subcontractor violations

( March 17, 2026, 08:22 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Matsuo Industries, an automobile and home-appliance parts maker, received a corrective recommendation for violating the Subcontract Act. Japan’s antitrust watchdog said Tuesday that the company had forced 12 subcontractors to store items such as molds and machinery without compensation, although it hadn’t placed orders for a lengthy period. Furthermore, Matsuo, which also was supplying materials to its subcontractors, changed their prices retroactively and forced the subcontractors to pay the price difference after the fact. The Japan Fair Trade Commission has recommended that Matsuo pay the unpaid storage costs, formally acknowledge the violations and improve compliance, as well as notify all employees and subcontractors about its wrongdoings and corrective actions.Statement is attached (in Japanese)....
