FIT ministers back WTO reforms, push moratorium on digital-trade customs duties

( March 17, 2026, 07:40 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex summary: Ministers from 10 members of the Future of Investment and Trade, or FIT, Partnership endorsed a declaration to strengthen the rules-based trading system ahead of the World Trade Organizations’s 14th Ministerial Conference in March 2026. The group committed to advancing plurilateral agreements, including the Investment Facilitation for Development Agreement and E-Commerce Agreement, supporting a permanent moratorium on customs duties on electronic transmissions and preserving dispute settlement through interim mechanisms such as the MPIA. Members also pledged to push agriculture reform and explore improvements to WTO decision-making, rule gaps and implementation pathways, positioning the FIT Partnership as a platform for pragmatic, trade-focused cooperation among like-minded economies.Statement follows....
