China, US reach new consensus in sixth round of economic, trade talks in Paris

( March 17, 2026, 03:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China said that it reached “new consensus” with the US during the sixth round of bilateral economic and trade consultations held in Paris on March 15-16, according to state media Xinhua. China’s lead negotiator, Vice Premier He Lifeng, met US counterparts Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, with the sides holding “candid, in-depth and constructive” discussions on tariff arrangements, promoting bilateral trade and investment, and maintaining existing consultation agreements. Beijing reiterated its opposition to US unilateral tariffs and urged Washington to fully remove restrictive measures, citing recent US actions including a 10 percent import surcharge under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, as well as China-related Section 301 probes and market-access restrictions. Both sides agreed to study establishing a cooperation mechanism to promote bilateral trade and investment, and to continue using the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism.Statement follows (in Chinese)....
