Coles' supermarket lease proposal in Australia's Tasmania faces regulatory review

( March 12, 2026, 03:34 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australian grocery retailer Coles Group's proposal to lease a new supermarket site in the state of Tasmania has triggered a regulatory review under the new mandatory merger-notification regime. In a statement on Thursday, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said Coles’ supermarket subsidiary has signed a letter of offer with property developer Tipalea Private No. 27 to lease a new standalone supermarket to be developed in New Norfolk, a town in the island state of Tasmania. The regulator said the proposed store would have a saleable floor area of about 2,600 square meters and would be co-located with a Liquorland outlet operating under a separate lease.
