China industry body warns of security, fraud risks from OpenClaw AI agent in finance

( March 16, 2026, 03:04 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s National Internet Finance Association warned Sunday that the fast-growing open-source AI agent OpenClaw poses security, compliance and fraud risks for the country’s internet-finance sector because the software often runs with high system permissions and weak security settings. In a risk notice released on its official WeChat account, the industry body said vulnerabilities, prompt-injection attacks and unvetted plugins could allow attackers to gain device control, steal online-banking credentials or manipulate securities-trading systems, potentially causing financial losses. It also warned that OpenClaw’s automated decision-making could trigger unintended transactions and create uncertainty over liability, while its data storage and API connections could expose sensitive financial data and raise compliance risks. The association urged consumers not to install the agent on devices used for financial services and warned institutions not to input customer data into such systems.Statement follows (in Chinese)....
