South Korea starts drafting AI ethics principles to overhaul 2020 guidelines

( March 13, 2026, 02:22 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT said it launched an expert advisory group on Friday to help draft the Artificial Intelligence Ethics Principles aimed at building a safe and trustworthy AI society, as mandated by the AI Basic Act. The principles will serve as guidelines to promote human-centered and responsible AI development and use, taking into account both the positive and negative impacts AI may have on society. South Korea has used the National Guidelines for AI Ethics since late 2020 but plans to adopt the new principles to reflect changes in the global AI landscape. The ministry plans to unveil a draft by mid-April and adopt a final version by June following a public consultation process.The statement is attached (in Korean)....
