Change Poland’s telecom data retention rules to comply with EU law, says watchdog

( March 12, 2026, 10:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: National rules requiring telecom operators to retain traffic and location data for 12 months breach EU law and constitutional safeguards, the Polish data watchdog said in a statement on Thursday. Location and traffic data are also personal data and can enable tracing of a user’s activity, it said. Any mass processing of data should be assessed against the backdrop of processing principles and the legal basis laid down in the EU’s data protection rules, the regulator said, urging national legislation to be adapted.Statement follows (in Polish)....
