South Korean regulator explores privacy risks from emerging agentic AI systems

( March 12, 2026, 05:52 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s privacy watchdog said agentic artificial intelligence could create a new layer of privacy risk because such systems autonomously carry out tasks, frequently process personal data and connect with external services. At an internal brown-bag meeting on Thursday, the Personal Information Protection Commission highlighted concerns that an AI agent’s authority could unintentionally expand as it links multiple services, that prompt-injection attacks could cause sensitive information to be disclosed externally and that sensitive data could continue to build up in the agent’s memory over time. The regulator said the discussion was aimed at better understanding how personal-data processing environments may change as agentic AI develops, and at identifying future privacy issues in advance. It added that the issues raised would feed into further policy discussions and future guidance for AI-agent-specific personal-data processing.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
