ICANN’s 2026 domain round an opportunity for trademark owners

The domain approach, which may appear costly and complex, can reduce fraud risks to customers from lookalike sites and fill gaps in trademark strategies, he said.The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the international body overseeing internet domain registration, will open applications for new top-level domains (TLDs) for the first time in 14 years in April. The move presents an opportunity for large corporations to secure their own TLDs using their trademarks, a strategy that could better secure their brands in the eyes of consumers, domain name consultancy FairWinds’ Josh Bourne told MLex....
