UK digital ID overhaul set out under govt plans now open for consultation

( March 10, 2026, 14:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: New UK plans for a national digital ID were put out for consultation by the government on Tuesday. The proposal would embed the ID in GOV.UK systems and extend its use to age checks and hiring, tightening scrutiny of data security, the government said in a statement. Ministers said public services need to “catch up” with services offered by the private sector, such as online banking. The consultation closes on May 5.Statement follows.
