South Korea advances bill to implement $350 billion US investment plan

( March 10, 2026, 05:08 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A special parliamentary committee on South Korea’s proposed law governing strategic investment cooperation with the US passed the bill on Monday with bipartisan support, paving the way for it to be submitted to the full National Assembly as early as Thursday. The legislation is intended to carry out a South Korea-US memorandum under which South Korea would channel $200 billion into strategic industries in the US and support a further $150 billion in shipbuilding-related cooperation, through a newly created investment corporation and fund. The bill establishes a layered governance structure for reviewing and advancing projects, while requiring key investment decisions to be reported to parliament. Investment information would in principle be disclosed, though portions could be withheld where they involve national security concerns or corporate trade secrets.Draft bill is attached (in Korean)....
