US Treasury says CFIUS thoroughly reviews deals within its 'statutory jurisdiction'

( March 9, 2026, 21:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Department of Treasury's reply to a letter from Senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal advocating for a national security review of Paramount Skydance's planned buyout of Warner Bros. Discovery stated that when a deal falls within the "statutory jurisdiction" of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, CFIUS "thoroughly considers the national security effects of each transaction — that is, an assessment of the threat, vulnerabilities, and consequences to national security related to the transaction — and takes appropriate action." The Treasury Department letter, which was authored by Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Mason Champion, did not specify whether or not CFIUS had determined that the Paramount Warner deal fell within its jurisdiction.See attached document....
