WhatsApp changes terms in EU, Brazil to address 'interim' antitrust concerns (update*)

The company, which argues that WhatsApp wasn’t designed to carry heavy traffic from third-party chatbots, is facing interim injunctions in the EU and Brazil over its policy to exclude rival AI agents. The policy change is designed to remove the "need for any immediate intervention as it gives the European Commission the time it needs to conclude its investigation,” the company said.Meta Platforms plans to allow AI chatbots to access its WhatsApp messaging service in the EU for up to one year in a move designed to address regulators' concerns that excluding them was harming the market.
