EU probe of Arla-DMK merger may turn on farmers’ options to sell their milk

The EU regulator's recent look at FrieslandCampina's buyout of Milcobel found that Dutch and Belgian farmers were left with enough alternatives. But the specificities of markets where Arla and DMK process an important share of the milk pool, notably Germany, could paint a different picture for EU investigators.As dairy cooperatives Arla and DMK work on readying notification of their merger for EU review, they will be alive to the need to convince investigators that the deal won't cut down the options available to farmers to sell their milk....
