( March 3, 2026, 06:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s antitrust watchdog has opened a new regional office that will oversee competition and consumer protection issues in the Gyeonggi and Incheon areas, which surround Seoul. The new Gyeongin Office, which will have 50 officials, will handle a broad range of regional enforcement work, including antitrust issues, subcontracting and franchise disputes, distributor-related issues and consumer protection issues, the Korea Fair Trade Commission said on Tuesday. The new office is expected to ease the growing workload at the Seoul regional office, as nearly 51 percent of all complaints filed with the KFTC originate from the greater metropolitan area. The agency said the growing workload has put significant strain on the Seoul office, raising concerns about delays in case processing. The Gyeongin Office is expected to take over some 36 percent of cases previously handled by the Seoul office and to receive about 30 percent of new complaints. The statement is attached (in Korean)....
