Japan state-backed chipmaker Rapidus names 32 private-sector investors

( March 2, 2026, 03:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Rapidus, Japan's state-backed startup that aims to begin next year mass production of highly advanced 2-nanometer chips in the northern island of Hokkaido, on Friday disclosed the list of private-sector investors. The earlier 267.6 billion-yen ($1.7 billion) funding announcement by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry hadn't specified the names of the 32 companies, which together provided funding of 167.6 billion yen. The list includes mostly Japanese tech companies, utilities providers and banks as well as carmakers Toyota Motor and Honda Motor. The Japanese subsidiary of American multinational IBM is the sole non-Japanese investor.The statement follows....
