China to ease Canada tariffs after Ottawa trims steel, aluminum duties

( February 27, 2026, 09:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China will adjust its antidiscrimination tariffs on certain Canadian imports after Ottawa partially rolled back additional duties on Chinese steel and aluminum products, the Ministry of Commerce said Friday. The ministry said it launched an antidiscrimination investigation in September 2024 into Canadian tariff measures targeting Chinese electric vehicles and steel and aluminum goods, and in March 2025 imposed retaliatory duties on certain Canadian products. Following recent consultations, the two sides reached a preliminary arrangement on trade issues, and Canada formally announced changes to some of its restrictive measures, the ministry said. Concluding that the conditions for adjustment had been met, the ministry decided to lift additional tariffs on certain Canadian imports, with details to be announced separately. The revised measures will apply from March 1 through Dec. 31, 2026.Statement follows (in Chinese)....
