Philippines proposes higher competition fines to offset inflation

( February 27, 2026, 02:38 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex summary: The Philippine Competition Commission is seeking public comments on proposed adjustments to administrative fines under the Philippine Competition Act to preserve their real value amid inflation. The draft circular published Thursday raises maximum fines for cartels, abuse of dominance and prohibited mergers from 110 million pesos ($6.4 million) to 125 million pesos for first offenses, and from 275 million pesos to 310 million pesos for subsequent violations. Higher penalties are also proposed for late merger notifications, non-compliance, submission of misleading information and obstruction of investigations.
