EU's industry law shouldn't support foreign steelmakers, trade association says

( February 26, 2026, 11:47 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU's planned industrial accelerator law should not direct European public money for low-carbon steel to producers outside the bloc, the European Steel Association, or Eurofer, said on Thursday. Europe should create conditions that give preference to steel produced in Europe, and also recognize the sector as strategic in the Industrial Accelerator Act, or IAA, it said.The law, which is due to be presented next week, aims to speed up permitting and clean transition of energy-intensive sectors as well as energy infrastructure projects. The statement follows....
