Toyota, Daimler Truck subsidiary merger cleared in Japan with remedies

( February 26, 2026, 09:33 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s antitrust authority on Thursday conditionally cleared Toyota Motor’s and Daimler Truck’s plan to combine their truck and bus subsidiaries, Hino Motors and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus. The Japan Fair Trade Commission said the transaction raised competition concerns in several markets, including those for small trucks and small tourism buses. To address these concerns, the parties committed to limit Toyota’s voting rights in the newly established holding company, Archion, to below 20 percent, ensuring Toyota remains an effective competitive constraint in those segments.
