South Korean school-uniform makers face antitrust probe over alleged cartel

( February 26, 2026, 07:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korean school-uniform makers and their dealers are under investigation by the country’s competition regulator over alleged collusion, Ju Biung-ghi, chairman of the Korea Fair Trade Commission, said on Thursday. Speaking at the inter-ministerial taskforce meeting on special management of consumer prices, Ju said the KFTC has launched a sweeping probe into four major uniform manufacturers and some 40 local dealers nationwide over suspected cartel practices that may have contributed to high uniform prices. He also added that the KFTC is scheduled to deliberate in March on the alleged bid rigging by 27 uniform suppliers serving 136 schools in Gwangju. Ju noted that recent cartel crackdowns in the sugar, flour and starch sectors led businesses to voluntarily lower prices.Speech is attached (in Korean)....
