Baedal Minjok, fried chicken chain face antitrust complaint in South Korea

( February 25, 2026, 04:22 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s leading food-delivery platform Baedal Minjok and fried chicken restaurant chain Cheogajip Yangnyeom Chicken are facing an antitrust complaint filed with the Korea Fair Trade Commission by franchisees, small business owners and major civil society groups, including People’s Solidarity for Participatory Democracy and Lawyers for a Democratic Society. The complaint, filed Tuesday, alleges that a recent agreement between the two companies — under which the fried chicken franchise agreed to operate exclusively on Baedal Minjok in exchange for a commission cut from 7.8 percent to 3.5 percent — violates the country’s competition law and the Franchise Business Act. Complainants argue the arrangement amounts to exclusive dealing, unfairly excludes competitors and constitutes an abuse of superior bargaining power. The statement is attached (in Korean)....
