China’s Mofcom to assess US tariff changes, may revise countermeasures

( February 25, 2026, 03:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China said it is monitoring and will assess recent US tariff changes and will in due course decide whether to revise countermeasures targeting Washington’s original fentanyl-related and “reciprocal” tariffs. The Ministry of Commerce said in a statement Tuesday it was responding after the US stopped collecting duties imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and instead introduced a 10 percent import surcharge on all trading partners. China urged the US to revoke unilateral tariffs and said both sides should address their concerns through the upcoming sixth round of bilateral trade talks.Statement follows (in Chinese)....
