Japanese gas station operator warned over alleged predatory pricing

( February 19, 2026, 08:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A Japanese gas station operator, Murakami Shoji, received a warning on Thursday from the country's antitrust regulator for selling gasoline at unjustifiably low prices that could constitute predatory pricing in violation of the Antimonopoly Act. The company, based in Fukuchiyama, Kyoto Prefecture, sold regular gasoline below cost for roughly two months in July and August last year, potentially harming fair competition in the region. According to the Japan Fair Trade Commission, Murakami Shoji offered regular gasoline at 142 yen (92 cents) per liter in July, compared with a Kyoto Prefecture average of 175 yen during the same month.The statements are attached (in Japanese)....
