South Korean official calls for electricity-policy reform to boost AI capabilities

( February 19, 2026, 01:56 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s top presidential policy secretary has called for urgent reform of the country’s electricity-governance system, warning that without structural changes the country risks becoming a net importer of artificial-intelligence capabilities despite hosting global leaders in the production of key AI hardware. Kim Yong-beom, presidential chief of staff for policy, also said in a social-media post on Tuesday that the architecture of the power grid, not algorithms, will determine whether South Korea emerges as a country that produces artificial intelligence or becomes one that imports it. “The essence of the AI war is not code, but electricity.
